HOLIDAY Bookmark

This is a wonderful little bookmark which is quick to crochet. It makes a nice gift to share with family, friends and classmates. Make it for gifts or your own good book!

MATERIALS:Red metallic #10 Bedspread weight cotton thread: approximately 15 yds. [Thread with a metallic strand tends to make larger stitches so you will need 19 rows for a metallic thread or about 21 rows if using a non-metallic thread.] The croched part measures 6 1/2 inches. Size 7 steel hook [or any size thread and matching hook].

ABBREVIATIONS: ch = chain, sl st = slip stitch, sc = single crochet, dc = double crochet, tr = treble crochet [wind thread 2X around hook, work off two loops at a time]. * = repeat directions from *to*.

TO FINISH: Cut thread 1 inch long and weave in ends. Press lightly if desired.

ROW 1 - Ch 5, sl st in 1st ch to form ring. Ch 3, [Counts as dc]. 2 dc in ring, 3 dc in ring. ROW 2 - Ch 3, turn; in ch 2 space make 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc; tr in dc at end of row. ROWS 3-19: Repeat row 2.

EDGING: Ch 1, sc in corner space; *ch 2, dc in same space, sc in next space*. Repeat * around except in each end space make 2 sc, ch 2, 2 sc; then continue with * around. Instead of final sc make sl st in 1st sc. Finish.

HINT: Use crochet hook to weave ribbon center spaces. Have extra ribbon at both ends or, if desired, you can leave 1/2 inch of ribbon at bottom of book mark to turn up and weave into back of marker. ENJOY!
